Episode 187 - Mark Macri
Mark became a professional musician in 1986, touring the United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Italy. His solo act debuted in 1991.
In 1996, Mark’s first album, “A Day At The Human Races,” was released and earned 2 SAMMY nominations. He refers to himself as the “Susan Lucci” of the Syracuse Area Music Awards with 5 nominations.
His second album, “A Better Place,” was released in 2004. In 2016, his third album, “Still Human,” was released featuring 27 Central New York musicians and included a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
Mark relocated to Orlando, Florida from 2004 to 2019, playing 8 months in Florida, and returning home in the summertime. During that time, He secured a residency at The House Of Blues Orlando for nearly 14 years, made regular appearances at The Hard Rock Tampa and opened for REO Speedwagon in 2018.
In addition to performing, Mark has worked as a studio musician for the better part of 30 years. He has opened for The Orleans, Little River Band, The Subdudes, and countless others.
From 1997 until 2021, Mark fronted Trainwreck. Currently, He is a member of Mood Swing. Mark recently launched a new project called Mark Macri & The Funk Junkies, featuring Ed Gorham on guitar and vocals, Robbie Spagnoletti on drums and vocals, and Jake Capozollo on bass and vocals.
Mark says he is most proud of being a part of the CNY Music scene, which he respects and loves so much. He is proud of the countless weddings, private functions and memorial services he has been part of, and the large “extended family” he has amassed.
“There’s not much of a higher honor to be included in joyous times, as well as times of loss. It’s hard to explain that kind of honor,” shared Mark, adding, “I’ve said this many times… I have the most loyal supporters that any musician could amass over the span of decades. Many of them have been with me from the beginning.”
