Episode 192 - DAMOYEE and Annie Elise
Introducing a new era of DAMOYEE. Widely known by her angelic and ethereal sounds, the acclaimed multi-hyphenate re-emerges with a shocking persona that’s every bit dark and gritty. Lyrically and musically, her new sound is cleverly crafted to be as rough and intense as it is calm and euphoric.
Since early childhood, the award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, composer and producer has been playing piano and studying music theory and composition to establish her own musical thumbprint built on an intrapersonal understanding of her art. Growing up, DAMOYEE found inspiration from the soulful musings of artists like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys as she began charting her journey as a pianist and storyteller with enchanting vocals — by the age of 10 she was performing her own original music.
Her 2019 album The Whole Truth — an impeccable repertoire of her life and musicianship at the time —charted internationally and garnered praise from publications like Dallas Observer and Central Track, which respectively dubbed her Best Vocalist and Best Female Vocalist in her hometown of Dallas, Texas.
Now, having spent the past few years bolstering her craft while a student at Berklee College of Music, DAMOYEE has found deeper meaning in the trials and tribulations of unrequited love, self-discovery and the reclamation of her womanhood. Her new music explores these themes while fusing shades of pop, jazz, R&B and folk to create a unique sound that has reverberated throughout the viral ethers of multiple platforms, including TikTok and Instagram, where she has amassed a collective audience in the hundreds of thousands of followers.
Through a life of seeing sounds and hearing color, electronic artist and producer Annie Elise is inspired by her synesthesia. Originally a classically trained violinist, Annie’s interest in electronic music stems from the neurological condition, even referring to herself as a “conductor for color” as she creates music that produces colors that she likes to see.
After giving a talk about synesthesia at TEDxLancaster with over 120k+ views, she has been an active songwriter, producer, engineer, and instrumentalist for a number of different artists and projects. Now, after performing and collaborating with the likes of ill.Gates, DAMOYEE, Semler, Scayos, and Old Sea Brigade, Annie is ready to show the electronic music scene all that she has to offer.
