Episode 30 - Sierra Sellers

Sierra Sellers is a singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA. A self taught singer, Sierra gravitated towards music at a young age and started writing her own songs in elementary school.

“Who is Jill Scott? – Words and Sounds Vol. 1” by Jill Scott and “MTV Unplugged 2.0” by Lauryn Hill were 2 albums tha had a strong influence in her musical career. “When we listen to music, all of us tend to lean towards a particular part in the song like the bass, or drums, or background vocals, or lead vocals and that part gives us chills. For me, I listen intently to the words. What is being said and the emotion tied to the delivery. Both of these albums have crazy lyrics that have influenced my work heavily.”

Before quarantine, Sellers released her second EP, Ophelia, where she shared her experiences on the infamous street in Oakland. She looks up to neo-soul artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, D’Angelo and Anderson .Paak.

In 2020, Sierra was featured on NPR’s “Slingshot Artists to Watch”. This was her second year performing at the Deutschtown Music Festival and she headlined virtually this past July. A few of her favorite venues to perform at are Con Alma and Thunderbird. Her goal is to continuing sharing her gift of music by singing and writing full time.
