Episode 59 - Kim Yarbrough

Kim Yarbrough has a voice as sultry and haunting as a Southern Summer. Since her captivating splash on NBC’s “THE VOICE”, the world saw how gifted she is. After her appearances on “The Voice” she was interviewed on the “TODAY” Show and that same evening, she dropped in to sing with The Roots on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”.
 
Kim is classically trained and sings in every style. Her vocal prowess has been compared to many renowned singers. Described as “Jennifer Hudson meets Chaka Khan”, she dominates every element— stage, film, recordings.
 
She is a quadruple threat: Vocalist, Actor, Dancer & Instrumentalist. Kim began acting at 8 years old and professional stages in Memphis began to take note, casting her in featured roles. These roles led to endless opportunities and live performances for legends like Al Green. The applause in Memphis spring-boarded her to perform at some of the most prestigious theaters in the world.
 
Kim has garnered an international social media following as an Actress/Singer in over 50 film & TV projects– “Jane the Virgin”, “Shameless”, “BONES”, “2 Broke Girls”, “The Mindy Project”, “The Soul Man”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and Oprah Winfrey and Ava Duvernay’s latest series “Cherish The Day”.
 
Upon arriving in LA, Della Reese took note of her talent, and produced a stage show entitled, “Della Reese Presents Kim Yarbrough”. Kim lives in LA and continues to hold her own alongside iconic artists: Loretta Devine, Betty White, Cedric the Entertainer, Lalah Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Sheila E, & Stevie Wonder.
 
Kim has released 3 albums, 2 singles (“Nice and Slow” & “Brand New Day”), and an EP of inspirational songs entitled “Dharma 888”. Kim’s latest album is entitled “Champagne & Grits”.
 
In high school, she joined an all-girl group. Sensing her own potential and feeling restricted within the group, Kimberly made a choice to push forward as a solo artist. Kimberly made the hard choice of putting her singing career on hold for 17 years to become a mom. Her son, now grown and out on his own, Kimberly turned up her passion knob to 100°. Her first single – “Get Up“ from D1 music – reached #12 on the Billboard dance club charts. Her next single, “Twist Of Love“, was played by over 200 radio stations, debuting at #41 on Billboard’s Hot Club Play Chart. After a few weeks, it skyrocketed to #9 where it remained for four more weeks.
 
But as they say, third times the charm! Her single, “With You”, landed her the #4 spot on the Billboard’s Dance Club Charts. Most recently, Kimberly‘s unique vocal prowess was brought, once again, to the world by producer Tony Moran and Nile Rodgers with the #1 chart topper, “My Fire”. “Life Is A Dancefloor”, by The Shapeshifters, is her third consecutive #1 international smash.
 
Kimberly is now a lead singer for the world-famous band Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, glows under the international spotlight, audiences on every continent respond to Kimberly‘s exceptional vocal prowess.
